A5-B5 (P5) listeners

Post by WOOW » Fri Nov 13, 2020 9:57 pm

Hello, I was wondering how many listeners would be possible to connect via A5-B5 (P5)?

On a side note, what was the underlying motivation to make Nmea4Wifi in 2 sizes?

Hello,

The P5 output is built around a MAX485 RS422 driver with Vcc = 5V. The signal at A5 varies between 0 and 5V. The maximum current is at least 35mA. So the number of listeners depend on their input impedance. During testing of my units I connect P5 to P1 P2 P3 and P4 and all 4 inputs receive the data that P5 sends out.

The large version is exactly the same as the standard one except for the screw connectors. The large one uses 5mm pitch connectors (the ones you can see in the Nmea2Wifi photos). The standard version uses 3.5mm pitch connectors. As you can have as much as 12/13 wires entering the multiplexer, I thought it could be useful to have connectors not densely placed.

Regards, Luis

Thanks. So in theory it should be possible to connect e.g. Autopilot to A1-B1 to get HEADING, loop back to Autopilot WIND+GPS+DEPTH+SPEED via A5-B5 and connect 2-3 additional listeners to A5-B5.
