Connecting to an External Network

Post by Luis Sa » Mon Jan 06, 2020 1:41 am

Hello,

I think that 95% of the cases, the Nmea4Wifi (or the Nmea2Wifi) multiplexer is used in "AP Network Only" mode. In this mode the multiplexer creates its network and it is accessed with IP 192.168.4.1.

In this post I show how we can connect to an existing network. In the shown videos the ssid of the external network is "CASA SALA". We can use DHCP to get an IP address for the multiplexer or we can force the multiplexer to use a known and free IP address on the network that we want the multiplexer to connect.

If we enter a fixed (in the case 192.168.1.29) IP address it will be shown on the text box for the IP Address (instead of ZERO) when the multiplexer gets a connection. We can have access to the settings web page using:
  • 192.168.1.29 when connected to CASA SALA or
  • 192.168.4.1 when connected to NMEA4WIFI

If we enter 0 on the IP Address text box, the multiplexer gets an address by DHCP. The received IP address is not shown on the text box when the connection is done. We need to access the webpage using AP mode and 192.168.4.1 and scroll down to the explanation notes to see it. In the case we will get 192.168.1.23. Once we know the received address the settings web page can be accessed using:
  • 192.168.1.23 when connected to CASA SALA or
  • 192.168.4.1 when connected to NMEA4WIFI

Best Regards, Luis
