NMEA2Wifi and Airmar DST800 NMEA 0183

Post by Joka » Sun Apr 18, 2021 9:32 am

Dear Louis,

I have very small boat and don't have much space so I am trying to run the instruments and sensors without batteries and NMEA network.
There are wireless solar powered wind sensors but the Depth, Speed, Temperature sensors need power to function.
Is it possible to run the NMEA1083 cable from Airmar DST800 NMEA0183 directly to NMEA2Wifi or NMEA4Wifi not running separate power supply directly to the sensor and transmit data directly to my mobile.
I found car jumper start small handheld 12V power banks that I want to use as a power supply for the NMEA2Wifi or NMEA4Wifi and recharge it when needed.
Something like this:

Thanks,
Joka :D

Hello,

I have a DST800 2K in my boat. It was impossible for me to get a manual for the 0183 version but finally I discovered that it has 4 wires. 2 to send out nmea 0183 data plus a red an black wires to supply power to the triducer.

So you need a 4 wire cable to connect the triducer to the nmea2wifi multiplexer. May be the cable that comes with the triducer is long enough or you can mount them best to each other. Just found that the cable is 10 meters long.

Now the triducer consumption is 40mA plus 60mA for the mix. If I were you I would get a small 7AH 12v battery. They are cheap and small. I have one like this

that I use in my lab. If it is fully charged it can power the triducer plus the multiplexer during 35 hours at which point they have 50% of its capacity and need to be charged. May be your solar system is capable of doing that.

Regards, Luis

I'll give it a thought and will get the NMEA2Wifi from ebay.

All the Best and take care,
